Field Applications

DT Media’s specialised recognition, simulation and training tools are widely used in the defence sector for

  • Intelligence & surveillance operations training
  • Threat awareness training
  • Combat identification training
  • Operations training
  • Mission rehearsal

Intelligence & Surveillance Operations Training
Used to train military personnel in real-time operations, specialist fields include Human Intelligence (the acquisition of intelligence from human sources), Imagery Intelligence, the interpretation and analysis of imagery from a variety of sources) and Signals Intelligence, interception and analysis of various communications).

Threat awareness training
Training using realistic 3D models improves observation skills and recognition of threats. Explosives, weapons and weapon platforms with chemical, radiation, and biological components can all be used.

Combat identification training
The cornerstones of Combat Identification are situational awareness and target identification within specified rules of engagement (ROE). Individual and collective training is critical if soldiers and leaders are to clearly distinguish between friendly and enemy vehicles in multiple situations. Insight training modules provide a graduated and robust training to meet a variety of combat identification challenges. Using Insight, military personnel quickly learn to identify the visual and thermal signatures of combat vehicles.

Mission rehearsal
A mission rehearsal exercise is the final step before deployment. It gives soldiers the chance to experience battle conditions working with the equipment they will be using in the field. Soldiers and leaders become familiar with the surroundings they will face in theatre. Mock attacks can be used to prepare personnel to handle many eventualities that occur in combat including loss of vehicles and loss of manpower.

Traditionally, mission rehearsal takes place before troops deploy abroad, but with newer technologies such as Insight iPod, soldiers and military personnel can train as they fight.
